Texas Tech Engineering Students Meet NASA Reps

Dean Fontenot, the Senior Director of Tech’s T-STEM Center, sent this notice today:

In the 2011 spring semester, Texas Tech engineering students engaged in a Service Learning Project with NASA through its Students Shaping America’s Next Spacecraft (SSANS). As a part of my ENGR 2331: Professional Communications for Engineers class, the teams designed seat backs and headrests, mounting brackets and tabs, and seatbelts for the Orion Mock-up Space Capsule.

Students in the class came from all disciplines, but they worked in cross-disciplinary teams to do a design project for a civic organization, in this case NASA SSANS Orion Mock-up Space Capsule.

Students interacted with practicing engineers at NASA Johnson Space Center on their designs and submitted their designs to the College of Engineering at UT-Tyler for fabrication.

The students from the Spring 2011 class will be recognized by two members from the NASA SSANS program on Thursday, October 4, 2012.

Only two Texas schools are part of this recognition: Texas Tech and UT-Tyler. In addition, Frenship High School will be recognized for their involvement with the program through the Texas Tech T-STEM Center.

Congratulations to the students for their excellent work!
