Harmony Science Academy Helps Tornado Victims & Welcome to Joseph Acaba

Harmony Science Academy in Lubbock was in the news last month because money they raised for their school’s activity fund was instead being sent to the Dallas Metroplex to help tornado victims. The fundraising was accomplished with a spring carnival and with after school concession sales. Thank you, HSA/Lubbock, for helping those in need!

We would also like to welcome a new Texas Tech student into the College of Education. Astronaut Joseph Acaba has been accepted into the doctoral program and the Blended Delivery Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with Specialization in Science Education cohort that will begin this Fall. Acaba is now aboard the Russian Soyuz TMA-04M spacecraft as part of the team for Mission 31/32 to the International Space Station. Read more here.

Presidio On the Road at CBS

We are so proud to say that Shella Condino and her rocketry class at Presidio High School have made the news!

Three of Presidio’s rocketry teams competed in the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) National Finals, and two of those teams are national finalists. See pictures of the teams and their rockets in this PDF: NASA SLI 2012 – TAME

The Aerospace Industries Association blogged about TARC and ended with a short comment by Shella Condino, Presidio High School teacher and leader of their rocketry program. http://goo.gl/CmPek

Congratulations to Shella and her rocketry teams. Y’all made everyone proud!

New Deal News & Video

We’re always excited to tell readers about exciting things happening at our T-STEM Academies.

Dr. Jerry Adams told us that New Deal High School received national certification for its Project Lead The Way (PLTW) program. This is the second time the school has gone through the national certification process to validate its program. Congratulations to Dr. Adams and New Deal High School!

In addition, New Deal has participated with GenTX this year, and many of the students and on-site locations in the video below are filmed at New Deal.
